It's been a great summer, and we are ready to close out the 2002 season of Uptown Friday Nights with The Uninvited. And that's not just a name, seriously, who invited these guys? You meet a band and tell them about the concert series you produce, and they think they can just show up and perform.
I'm obviously kidding...and for the record I invited them. Regardless of their name, The Uninvited are most welcome, because they put on an incredible show. The Uninvited mixes it up with originals from their two studio albums, cover tunes ranging from 90's hits to current favorites, and an occasional retro throwback to keep the audience on their toes. A typical show may start with lighter fare to warm the crowd up, but it will finish approaching balls-to-the-wall: Don't bother to sit down!
Make no mistake about it, you're invited to this party. But not that beer guy, he just keeps showing up. It's not all bad though, he brings a truck full of Miller Lite. That much beer doesn't serve itself, so it's a good thing we received RSVP's from Cargill and Carpenters Local 308 & 1260.
Speaking of uninvited, KWWL thinks they can just put us on the news because they are this week's television sponsor. Oh wait, that's a good thing...nevermind. And the same goes for our presenting sponsors Mix 96.5, 100.7 The Fox, Mediacom, and Munson Electric. Speaking of Mediacom, don't forget to watch TV10 for the television debut of the LARGE midgets Luau that was taped last Friday.
To get serious for a second, this week the Friday Night Dream Makers will be presenting $1000 each to Cedar Rapids Elementary/Middle School Libraries, ARC of East Central Iowa, and H.D. Youth Center . This is just one way the Cedar Rapids Jaycees give back to the community, and it is possible because you support events like Uptowns.
This is the end...of this e-mail and Uptown Friday Nights 2002. We thank you for your support, and look forward to seeing you at Veteran's Memorial Stadium for Cedar Rapids Jaycees day with the Kernels and the Mix 96.5 Listener Party. Consider this your written invitation to party with us and the Mix crew from 5 to 7 with live music from Party Mix Specialists, then enjoy a Kernels game. Don't forget to buy your tickets at Uptown this week.
See you at the park!
