Band Name: Bohemian Soul Tribe
Hometown: Cedar Rapids and Iowa City
Website: https://www.bohemiansoultribe.net
Performing: July 11, 2003

Bohemian Soul Tribe is an incredible blend of musical contradictions. Their sound is raw and refined, both evocative and elusive, powerful yet enticingly sophisticated. These seemingly polar elements, combined with their impressive array of playfully melodic, funk-laden originals and uncanny arrangements of both obscure and classic soul/rock tunes, serve up one super-sexy plate of pure groove. You simply will not know whether to lose yourself to the music, or to rediscover yourself. Either way one thing is for sure, "you sho' do gotta dance!"

The Tribe's nine-piece conglomerate immersed itself in the Eastern Iowa music scene in 1998 and remains to this day a cosmic force for funk fans to tap into. After four years and some personnel changes in the horn section, the band's current lineup includes the four founding members (friends since high school): Clyde Purk (lead guitar/vocals), Paul Hala (keyboards/guitar/vocals), Jeremiah Murphy (bass/vocals), and Brian Cooper (drums/percussion/inspiration). Taking it beyond the usual four piece, and making the band a true Tribe are the horns: Luke Ziegenhorn (tenor sax), Johnny Cord (trumpet), Jason Maiers (trumpet), Aaron Rader (trombone), and Jeff Breemeersch (baritone sax). Last but certainly not least is lead vocalist Nassor Cooper!

Recently, the band has begun creating more of their own music. In the summer of 2002, it was decided that the band would go into a studio and record their original material. The Great Beat Down, Bohemian Soul Tribe's first studio album of their original material was released on November 27th, 2002.

Witnessing Bohemian Soul Tribe live is an unforgettable experience. When the Tribe is on your mind is gone, and your body dances around like spare change in the warm, fuzzy pocket of Bohemian Soul Tribe.
